What is Centering Pregnancy®?

The Centering Pregnancy® method for prenatal care is part of a growing healthcare trend to combine preventive and wellness care with education and personal support.

  • Women with similar due dates meet for ten sessions beginning early in the second trimester through the postpartum period.
  • Each session begins on time with no waiting.
  • At a mother’s first prenatal visit she will receive a schedule of all the group sessions.
  • At each session an expectant mother will receive a regular prenatal check-up plus education about her baby, her pregnancy, childbirth or parenting.
  • An expectant mother will have an opportunity to share stories and learn from other expectant mothers.
  • At each session women receive check-ups, support and education in one place and in one trip.
  • The quality of prenatal care is equal to the one-on-one traditional form of care, but the depth and quality of the group discussions and support the women give each other make it a personalized experience.
  • Through this unique model of care, moms-to-be are empowered to choose health promoting behaviors.
